Increase in Stray Dog Population

Animal Control Officer with the Animal Control Centre, Peter Belgrave, reports a resurgence in Barbados’ stray dog problem and says the organisation is intensifying surveillance and response activities to deal with it.

Mr Belgrave, was speaking in an interview with Starcom Network News following an elderly woman being mauled to death by a pack of dogs, some of which were said to be strays. “What we are doing now however, is we’re looking at those areas where we are still getting a lot of calls, especially where people are complaining about barking dogs and places where the people are complaining that the dogs are taking out the garage at night and scattering it all over person’s property, because that is a public health issue.”
