PM: A company to be selected to operate GAIA within a year

Within a year a company will be selected to run the Grantley Adams International Airport and government is also partnering with a private sector investor with regards the Barbados Hilton.

Plans for the partial divestment of the two key state assets were outlined by Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley addressing a town hall meeting in London hosted by the Barbados High Commission.

Miss Mottley says a key part of the airport deal will be an injection of about 150 million Barbados dollars by the private sector entity for a major upgrade of Grantley Adams International which she stressed is critical for Barbados as a tourism destination. That work to start in about a year and a half.

Prime Minister Mottley emphasised that the Barbados government had made it clear to the international lending agencies that the airport would not be sold.

Prime Minister Mottley also outlined a deal in relation to the Barbados Hilton.
