Iconic Barbadian politician Dr. Don Blackman has passed away.
He was 86 years old
Dr. Blackman died in Broward County in Florida where he lived. He’s also said to have lived in Trinidad.
The former politician operated a construction company in St. Kitts along with a business partner.
Dr. Blackman was Minister of Labour and Community Services from 1978 to1980, Minister of Transport and Works from 1981 to1983, Minister of Health and Community Services from 1983 to1984, and became Minister of Transport and Works in 1988.
Dr. Blackman was considered to have been one of the most charismatic and dynamic platform speakers of the Barbados 1986 general election and was one of the architects of the Democratic Labour Party’s resounding 24 to 3 triumph then.
The former Member of Parliament for St Michael East fuelled national debate with his late withdrawal from the next general election in January, 1991.
